Hotel St. George invites you to visit the “Pinacoteca di Brera“, which is now hosting masterpieces from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow until 5 February 2012. The show presents paintings by many world famous artists that have influenced the way art is seen today including: “White Water Lilies” by Claude Monet; “Pierrot and Harlequin” by Paul Cézanne; “Aha Oe Feii” by Paul Gauguin; “Portrait of Ambrose Vollard” by Pablo Picasso (one of the greatest works from the late Cubist period). The paintings come from the collections of Sergej Scukin and Ivan Morozov, two Russian collectors who challenged the tastes of their era leaving us with timeless masterpieces!

The Contemporary Art Gallery in Milan presents the exhibition “PIXAR – 25 years of Animation“. The exhibition, which has arrived in Europe after a long international tour that included the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, premieres in Milan until 14 February 2012. Over 500 works will demonstrate how Pixar Studios blends creativity, digital language and animation to make films including “Luxo Jr” (first full-length feature in 1986), Monsters Inc. (2001), Toy Story 1, 2 and 3, Ratatouille (2007), WALL·E (2008), Up (2009), Cars 2 (2011) and their latest “Brave” coming in 2012.

The filmmakers of Pixar, which was founded by John Lasseter and Steve Jobs, use drawing, tempera, pastels and sculpture to create their stories. The public will discover the creative process behind animated film in the show’s four sections: Characters, Storylines, Worlds and Digital Convergence. As well, thanks to the digital technology of two special installations, the Artscape and the Zoetrope, visitors can watch and enjoy the finished products. Hotel St. George is pleased to inform you about the exhibition “From Bacon to the Beatles. New Images in Europe During the Years of Rock”, which is running until 12 February 2012. It presents the history of modern figurative art inspired by Giacometti, Bacon and many other great artists of that time. The show displays 70 paintings and sculptures from the 1960s on loan from private and public Italian and international collections with a fabulous 1960s soundtrack.

There is a special focus on Great Britain and artists who did cover artwork for the Beatles‘ albums including Peter Blake (Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band) and Richard Hamilton (White Album). Along with its expected commentary, the exhibition’s audio guide plays the music of the times starting with Elvis Presley’s early songs and ending with songs from the Beatles’ last album, “Let it Be”.

This exhibition offers the opportunity to relive a great, vibrant and recent historical period through sight and sound. It is also a good occasion to book a package at the Hotel St. George and do some Christmas shopping in Milan!

Palazzo Reale is hosting an exhibition entitled “Transavanguardia” (the Transavantgarde movement is the Italian version of Neo-expressionism) from 10 November 2011 to 29 January 2012 with works by: Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, Nicola De Maria and Mimmo Paladino. The event both celebrates 150 years of Italian Unity and is part of a series of six exhibitions dedicated to the Transavantgarde movement, which has placed Italian art and culture on an international level since it birth 40 years ago. The movement, which was named by Achille Bonito Oliva in 1979 after the 39^th Biennale of Venice, proposed a return to the manual making of art and its traditions. This large retrospective exhibition offers a look at the inspiration, history and creativity of the movement and presents the most recent works of its now world famous founding artists.

Hotel St. George invites you to discover an interesting exhibition entitled “Mal d’Africa” (Nostalgia for Africa) running until 30 September 2012. This upcoming year offers you an opportunity to fall in love with Africa; a continent that has been attracting the attention of Europeans since the early 1900s with its tribal artefacts and which inspired such famous artists as Picasso and Modigliani.

The show presents 400 pieces from the collection of Alessandro Passarè, a Milanese doctor who often travelled to Africa in search of sculptures and masks rich in expressiveness and symbolical meanings. The museum, owned by the banking group Intesa Sanpaolo, will house the prestigious 19^th -century collection of the “Fondazione Cariplo”, which includes 242 paintings and sculptures.

The collection highlights the following Italian movements and artists:

“Romanticism” (natural and urban landscapes, particularly of the city of Milan) with works by Luigi Bisi, Carlo and Giuseppe Canella, Giovanni Migliara, Francesco Hayez and Giuseppe Molteni;
“Il Risorgimento” (the Resurgence) with works by Domenico and Gerolamo Induno, Sebastiano De Albertis and Eleuterio Pagliano;
” Naturalism” with works by Leonardo Bazzaro, Mosè Bianchi, Filippo Carcano, Eugenio Gignous, Emilio Gola and Pompeo Mariani;
